I just did it again with version 7.1.1.2. Maybe it depends on the file that
you are editing. But I do not understand what you meant be exiting edit mode.
The 1st time I insert a box, it works. After I enter in some text, I click
outside the box to not have it selected anymore. Then I click on the add text
box icon, and it does not change to the cross. It stays as a hand.
