          Priority: medium
            Bug ID: 61322
          Keywords: regression
          Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: : Dependency chain prevents installation of .desktop
                    files
          Severity: normal
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Linux (All)
          Reporter: [email protected]
          Hardware: Other
        Whiteboard: BSA
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: 4.0.0.3 release
         Component: Installation
           Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
After installing libreoffice4, if I try to install the desktop integration, it
will complain that it conflicts with libreoffice-core (the 3.6 version
installed). I can't remove the libreoffice 3.6 package installed, as the
"gnome" package has a dependency on either "libreoffice" or abiword. But
libreoffice4 doesn't count towards satisfying that dependency. So, the only
workaround is to uninstall the gnome package, in order to be able to uninstall
libreoffice-core, and only then install libreoffice 4 desktop integration.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install libreoffice 4
2. Try to install the desktop integration. An error will say that there is a
conflict with libreoffice-core.
3A. If you force the installation, you get a broken package, and synaptic will
not install any further update from that point onwards.
3B. If you try to uninstall libreoffice-core, the dependencies in the "gnome"
package will force the installation of abiword, even though I already have a
word processor installed (libreoffice4).

Current behavior:
It should be possible to install libreoffice 4 with desktop integration,
without uninstalling the gnome package, or having to install abiword.

Expected behavior:
One is required to either uninstall the gnome package, to install abiword, or
not to have the possibility of double clicking a file and opening it with
libreoffice 4.

Possible solutions that I could think of:
- Provide as part of the libreoffice 4 installation an updated
"libreoffice-core", that just points to the libreoffice4-core one.
- Fix the libreoffice4 desktop integration package so that there is no conflict
with libreoffice-core. For example, renaming the package. This one would
probably be more elegant, and it would allow having both libreoffice 3.6 and 4
installed and usable at the same time.
Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.0.0.3 release
Last worked in: 3.6.5.2 release
