JaipurFoot is an Indian non-governmental organisation that helps the injured
and handicapped. Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) is the
world's largest rehabilitating charity, supporting about 1.78 million
individuals with disabilities. BMVSS offers all of its services for free,
including prosthetic limbs, callipers, and other aids and appliances.
BMVSS holds field camps throughout the world to assist the patient who are
unable to travel to the main centres due to financial or physical constraints.
Physicians and technicians go to numerous places with equipment and resources.
The organization offers on-the-spot manufacturing and fitting of prosthetic
limbs and other aids and appliances at these camps. Over 50 similar camps are
organised each year. Mobile vans are also used by BMVSS personnel and
volunteers to reach out to rural regions.
BMVSS camps vary from those conducted by other organizations in that they are
one-stop facilities where patients who arrive are measured and their
custom-made limb/caliper is/are produced and fitted without requiring them to
return a second time, as most other organisations do.
