After some messing about on my own system I managed to hone this down a bit: My operating system is Windows 7 Pro. SP1 x64. On that system I use the 'Windows Classic' (desktop/windows) Theme. I just tried temporarily changing the theme to 'Windows 7 Basic' and the problem disappears -- and, in fact, for the first time I see the Styles Deck as it is meant to be.
