Bug ID: 145950
Summary: Use of MacOS Extended Journaled FS Causes Crashes on
Save or Export on All LiberOffice Components
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.2.2.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: LibreOffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
This bug report explains the common factor causing the crashes reported in the
following bugs:
145167
145168
145189
145285
In addition to those bugs, I have nearly a dozen additional and similar
crashes. All can be demonstrated as being caused by the underlying FS used to
store the files.
I have been using VeraCrypt containers for file storage. They predate APFS.
When I tried copying a few "consistent crash" files to a different computer,
(Mojave using APFS), the files would not cause a crash. I then tried moving
those files to the native APFS drive on my computer, and they also worked every
time. To rule out VeraCrypt as the cause, I created a test VeraCrypt container
I formatted with APFS and everything continued to work correctly.
To verify that the Mac OS Extended Journaled Filesystem was the cause, I moved
the files to a Thunderbolt-connected drive which was Mac OS Extended Journaled.
The files caused crashes EVERY time.
Thus, this is CLEARLY a bug where LibreOffice is no longer properly handling
the Mac OS Extended Journaled Filesystem.
Since this is a FS still in widespread use, I consider this to be a MAJOR bug.
Note that not all LO files cause crashes, but about 10% to 15% of my files are
causing consistent crashes.
Please see the above bug reports for additional details, and I can provide
additional crash dumps if required.
