Bug ID: 146855
Summary: UI: The ability to set spellchecking language on a
per-cell basis is difficult to discover
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.1.8.1 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
LibreOffice Calc has a spellchecker. The spellchecker supports spreadsheets
written in multiple languages. Unfortunately this feature is hidden behind an
unobvious user interface.
I expected to be able to set the language for selected cells via the Tools ->
Language menu, but It currently only offers me to set the language "For all
text".
In order to set the language only for cells you selected I currently have to:
1. Right click
2. Select "Format Cells..."
3. Select "Font"
4. Find my language in the "Language" drop-down
This is counterintuitive for multiple reasons:
1. After not finding an option to change the language in the Tools -> Language
menu a user is likely to assume that this feature is not supported
2. Spell checking has little to do with formatting and even less to do with
font
Please add an option to set the language "For selected cells" to the Tools ->
Language menu
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a cell
2. Open the Tools -> Language menu
Actual Results:
See that it does not offer you an option to set the language only for cells you
selected and keep the language for the rest of the spreadsheet the same
Expected Results:
I expected to see an option named "For selected cells" under the option named
"For all text"
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
