1 shows the text when the paragraph is still there; 2 shows the spell-language
switch menu when the paragraph in question is removed

Good day, everyone!

My default spell-checking language is set to Russian. If I paste some text in
English (for example, if I copied it from the web), and there is still one
blank paragraph left behind the pasted text that has the Russian language set
for the spell-checking, I'm unable to switch the spell-checking language for
the whole of the text (selected with Ctrl+A) with the help of the status bar:
the only option that I have is Russian, while all the text is in English.

Removing the blank paragraph solves the problem: the option to switch to
English is right there.
