These brackets you are seeing are not printable characters. They're actually markings that show that this is the target of a bookmark. To check this in the sample file you provided, open the Navigator (press F5) and go to the Bookmarks section. Now double-click the bookmark and you'll see that the section enclosed with brackets will be selected. See attached image for more details. To hide these markings, you can simply disable the option in View - Field Shadings.
