You right click in a folder, select new, select OpenDocument Text. and it creates New OpenDocument Text.odt This context menu operation is added by libreoffice when you install it. If you set a default template, or if you modify the default font choices via settings, they do not apply to those new files. They only apply when you open a new untitled document via the start menu shortcut for libreoffice writer.
