            Bug ID: 150617
Summary: different page numbering for preliminaries
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

The question is "How do I use Roman numbers for first pages and Arabic numbers
for the rest?" This is essential for anybody writing a thesis, dissertation, or
book manuscript, so LibreOffice is "not fit for purpose" without it.

The "page style" approach doesn't work, which is indicated in current help
documents. The "page style" menu box gives a choice of the kind of numbering
but it doesn't show on pages.

Somebody once told me how to get to a dialog box that will do this very easily,
but there is no easy way to find it from the main menu and I couldn't find it
again. So a fix is probably a question of changing the user interface rather
than changing the programming.
