the lefthand side of the statusbar disappears from view, when the window width
is reduced in size, this can masks the zoom and size selection possibility
etc...
the other toolbars show a >> sign, from which the masked symbols can be
accessed
have the statusbar re-act in the same as e.g. the standardbar
it's recognised the functions masked can be access via -view --zoom buttons on
the standardbar when this happens
