Remarks: 1) The current icon for selection mode has a hover, but the various icons remind me of the ancient Egyptian culture: not easy to understand. 2) Insert/Overwrite mode (left 'neighbour') is permanently shown as text. 3) The 'neighbour' to the right is even blank, but has a hover. Probably meant as an "Easter Egg". 4) The next space to the right would be quite enough for a selection state in text, but is not adjacent.
