Bug ID: 152891
Summary: No uppercase/capital letters made after phrases ending
with numbers
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.4.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
There is a useful option in Writer settings which makes a lowercase letter
become a capital letter at the beginning of a new sentence after dots, question
marks and exclamation marks. But there is a problem which occurs when this rule
faces numbers.
That is, for instance, I have two phrases going one by one: "He`s now 90. He
didn`t plan to live for so long". And LibreOffice doesn`t make the second "he"
capitalized, so in my case it looks like: "He`s now 90. he didn`t plan to live
for so long". The same occurs after "?" and "!" and also with a percentage mark
("%", "100%." and alike). And such behavior doesn`t depend on the language in
which sentences are written.
The same inconvenient pattern can be found in OpenOffice. Microsoft Word does
that alright.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Think of a phrase ending up with a number like "She is 20."
2. Type it, press ./?/! at the end of it, press Backspace and type a random
word without pressing Shift at its first letter.
3. Get the word following the number and ./?/! with a lowercase first letter
instead of a uppercase one.
Actual Results:
The first letter of a word following a phrase ending with a number doesn`t get
capitalized.
Expected Results:
The first letter of a word following a phrase ending with a number should get
capitalized (minding that the corresponding option is activated).
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
It`s a minor thing really, but that`s irritating. I suppose there should be an
easy way to fix that via editing some settings file. I will appreciate any help
concerning the matter. And I`m sorry if this problem was already mentioned, but
I searched and failed to find a similar case. Thanks for help in advance.
