And for what's worth, not matching Word behaviour either Multiple QA members and two bug reporters see the current state as undesired. And well there is sentence in comment 13 (Mike) which suggests the issue being the lack of clear description of the bug. "But it is of course possible to special-case it as much as wanted ... just some clear unambiguous and non-confusing specification of expected behavior is needed." I tried to demonstrate the problem in comment 35.
