Bug ID: 153356
Summary: Language pack installation only works after some time
on Big Sur
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.5.0.3 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: macOS (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Installation
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
I just installed LO 7.5.0.3 on an old Macbook Air running Big Sur 11.7.3.
Multiple attempts to install the en-GB language pack failed, even though I had
used the same downloaded files to successfully install LO and the langpack on a
Macbook Pro running Monterey 12.6.3 just the day before.
I ran LO once to ensure that FileVault had recognised it. I then ran the
langpack installer and had to choose the installation directory manually. After
I chose it (in my case /Applications/LibreOffice.app) an error box popped up
stating that it was not a valid LibreOffice installation.
I was already in the process of filing a bug when I made one more attempt, but
this time the installation completed successfully. I don't know if this has to
do with slow indexing by Spotlight or whether there is a different reason, but
it is clear that the installation of language packs on macOS remains
problematic and erratic.
I am filing a separate bug because I have not found this specific occurrence in
any of the many other langpack installation bugs which I have looked at.
Ultimately, it would probably be good to find a different way to install
language packs or even to include all macOS supported languages in the LO
package by default, as suggested in bug 129178.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install LO 7.5.0.3 and run it once.
2. Run the langpack installer
3. Choose the right installation folder when prompted (in my case
/Applications/LibreOffice.app)
Actual Results:
Error message pops up stating that this is not a valid LibreOffice installation
and to try and run the installer again.
Expected Results:
Install the language pack correctly.
Reproducible: Sometimes
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
The issue resolved itself with time as noted above, but it remains problematic.
