I've changed component to UI. Apologies if this is a wrong move. To strengthen this feature proposal with a use-case: I have lots of charts generated by external software, and I need to present them in Impress. When preparing presentation, I often need to update/re-generate the images 10 slides down the road (e.g. fix typo in axis descriptions). When images are linked I just re-run the generator and I'm done.
