            Bug ID: 153962
Summary: Very slow opening of first document after starting
                    LibreOffice with Internet connected.
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: LibreOffice
          Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
          Reporter: veg...@bcon.no

The problem with LibreOffice taking forever to open the first document when
Internet is available on the PC, no matter if it’s a Calc or Writer document or
anything else, has been bugging me for at least a couple of years now. It seems
to me that other people also have had similar problems. But finally I think I
may have found a consistent solution.
This solution was, among other things, prompted to me by ideas about changing
the default printer to something that is always present, like Microsoft’s Print
to PDF. But even this solution didn’t do the trick for me all the time.
This got me looking for other possible solutions and I think I may have found a
consistent workaround. At least it is working every time (for me), for every
version of LibreOffice that I’ve tried. Presently I’m running version 7.5.0.1
(on my laptop) but I have also tested this on earlier versions of LibreOffice,
and on other PCs, all of which are running 64-bit Windows 10. Recently I have
received confirmation that the workaround also works with Windows 11.

So, here it is:

In LibreOffice, go to:

- Tools
- Options
- Load/Save
- General

Then: Remove the tick from the “Load printer settings with the document”
checkbox.

I realise this is just a workaround for the real problem, which is slowness (my
guess is that it is a timeout) to open the first document after starting
LibreOffice WITH Internet connected (when there is no Internet connection this
problem is non-existent). So, in my opinion, this is a real bug which must
reside elsewhere within LibreOffice.
