--- Comment #3 from Telesto <[email protected]> ---
(In reply to Eyal Rozenberg from comment #2)
> What was the rationale for moving it to Expert Options?

Good question. The commit message making the change points to
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=Design/Whiteboards/Options/Global
see
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=0b0fb87fbac36ef9fbf3dfeac0f1372617f4b3e4

Motivation: These settings aren't necessary for the usability of LibreOffice
and don't comply with our design principles.

---

Based on few ask question the main issue is that the cell Selection is
following system colors. If you have a yellow system color (which appears to be
the case here), you will have hard time noticing selections. Especially with
high transparency (low contrast)

Some other ask reports:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/calc-how-to-change-color-of-selected-cell-indicator/76852
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/how-to-change-calc-cell-selector-colour-on-7-3-on-macos/73847

If I read this correctly the removal of Selection.Transparency pre-dates the
issue. So nobody missed it until some started pointing to it to solve this way
