I think perhaps you're referring to another bug? This is not a feature request.

We are forcing users to do something they don't want, in order to then achieve
something they do want. It is as though in order to draw a circle, you had to
add draw a square, then change its shape in some properties menu. ... and
actually, even worse, because if you have auto-preview enabled, you will also
be treated to the animated sequence showing you exactly what you don't want to
happen :-P

I didn't suggest starting anything from scratch. I just want to be able to make
a selection in the effect type list-box before adding the effect. There could
of course be other UI changes to the animations sidebar, but this bug is not
about that.

I'll also clarify that, unlike Telesto, I'm not suggesting we remove the
possibility of changing the effect type after addition - just that we allow it
before addition.
