Bizarrely, I see the icon in the macOS menubar when LO is running on a colleagues macMini, but not on my Macbook Pro (in fact, not ever that I can recall). I don't know / haven't bothered to compare configs, to see if there's a particular setting that makes it appear on one machine's desktop, and not on another.
