Due to the wide variety of numbering specifications, notably in US legal papers, my suggestion is to make Separators Before and After part of the level-specific parameters instead of having them global. The dialog (list styles and chapter numbering) could be modified as follows: Separators Before |__________] After |__________| |____| If last To get present behaviour, a dot in entered in Separator Before in levels 2-10 The box "If last" replaces Separator After in case this level is the last one to get the present effect of the "global separators. For example to enclose the number inside parentheses: level 1 Before ( level 2 Before . If last ) level 3 Before .
