            Bug ID: 155923
Summary: UTF-8 Symbols are displayed on screen, but in print or
pdf export there are only blanks
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 7.4.7.2 release
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Printing and PDF export
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
Affected are likewise Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw.
In LibreOffice documents with UTF-8 Symbols like in the Writer sample file (1)
the UTF‑8 symbols are displayed on screen (2). But:
    • when printed, on paper there are only blanks and no symbols.
    • when exported to pdf, in the pdf-document there are only blanks and no
symbols (3)

Steps to Reproduce:
Insert UTF-8 symbols into any LibreOffice Document like the sample file (1),
e.g. u+1f6b4, u+1f6b6, u+1f4f7, u+1f50b

Actual Results:
The UTF‑8 symbols are displayed on screen (2). But:
    • when printed, on paper there are only blanks and no symbols.
    • when exported to pdf, in the pdf-document there are only blanks and no
symbols (3)

Expected Results:
The UTF-8 symbols should be printed on paper in color and they should be
exported to pdf-documents.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
I came across this bug on 2022-08-30. It has been present since in all versions
of LibreOffice on Manjaro KDE.

My Present Operating System:
  Kernel: 6.1.31-2-MANJARO arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: KDE Plasma v: 5.27.5
    Distro: Manjaro Linux

My Present LibreOffice Version:
Version: 7.4.7.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 40(Build:2)
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 6.1; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: de-DE (de_DE.UTF-8); UI: de-DE
7.4.7-2
Calc: threaded

This issue is independent of the printer (Canon TS 6350). Other apps print
UTF-8 symbols correctly by the same printer. For plain text files it depends
upon the text editor: Mousepad prints UTF-8 symbols correctly, while Kate
prints blanks.

In Mousepad text editor, UTF-8 symbols are displayed correctly on screen and
they are printed correctly.
When exported by Mousepad text editor to pdf, the UTF-8 symbols are displayed
and printed correctly in the pdf-document (4).

By the way: in a version of LibreOffice for windows (tested with a Lexmark
printer) there was no such bug; UTF-8 symbols were printed correctly.

The issue was confirmed in the German Manjaro forum
https://manjaro-forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=4064.
