For a user that wouldn't know about this or don't have the need or is used to a different experienced behavior in other spreadsheet tools would not think of it (i.e. it is not really "obvious"). For users with accessibility problems, it is not "simple" either. KISS (other than maintaining the current algorithm): AutoFill corner handle extension (double-click) would consider the "longest" column to _both_ sides (with same current caveats); no new shortcuts.
