The problem appears to occur only in files that were created or edited in version 3.x or possibly older. In particular, .docx files that were created by MS Word are handled correctly. However, I cannot verify the proposed workaround. The only workaround that I know of is saving as a different file type (e.g, .doc or .odt). The bug as it appears in version 3.x does appear to be fixed in version 4. However, version 4 is unable to handle the tag, which is a separate bug.
