I reproduced in any LibreOffice Writer and could undoubtedly do so in others. More significantly, I confirmed the observation in bug 71732, that the behavior also occurs in the Character Map app. However, that person was unable to reproduce the problem in Cinnamon, and I'm not sure why this would be, since my report describes the problem occurring under Cinnamon. I would have no objection to classifying this as a non-LibreOffice bug.
