Hm I spoke too fast, sorry, I think Timur is right in bug 153686 comment 3.

This is about the default colour of table _borders_. As far as I can tell, a
new table is always inserted with (black) borders in Writer - because there is
no "Automatic" border colour.

Bug 143848 is about the table _boundaries_ that are visible when the table has
no borders, and that can be changed in Application Colors.
