THANK YOU for this info about the appimage.  I picked the one labeled
"LibreOffice-7.6.2.1.basic-x86_64.AppImage" hoping it would be the right one. 
After downloading and double-clicking it as an executable, the LibreOffice
screen showing recent files immediately appeared, so it didn't seem like
anything was executing.  Later I noticed that the version now showed 7.6.2.1,
so apparently it must have installed instantly.  So far my Calc file that had
the trouble with losing column/row freezes seems to be working OK through a
save and reopen, so now time will tell if this random problem reoccurs.  Thank
you again.
