Doing this seemed to reset some of the spell check options for me. The words that were misspelled were not underlined in red and did not show up with the F7 manually spell check. Going into spell check options I checked off every box and that seemed to fix it for me. I'm pretty sure I checked off something I shouldn't have but looking into those options and selectively picking what is needed is a good start.
