There never was a method called getMathML, the forum post you got it from isn't real code, its more a "I want to do something like this" pseudo-code. Something like storeToURL with "MathML XML (Math)" as the filter might do something useful for you, alternatively you could dig into the source of writer2latex to have a look at its mathml export stuff to see how they handled that.
