Heya,
Just to clarify: I’m no longer proposing changes to the English
dictionaries in LibreOffice core, and I won’t be committing dictionary
updates to Gerrit.
I’ll continue maintaining my alternative English dictionaries via the
LibreOffice extensions site, independently of what LibreOffice ships by
default.
I remain part of the LibreOffice contributor community, just not through
core dictionary commits.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am the upstream maintainer and author of SCOWL and the upstream
wordlists used to generate the en_US/en_CA/en_AU Hunspell
dictionaries.
There is a possibility that on Jan 1, 2026 a change will be submitted
for review that re-roots LibreOffice's en_US/en_CA/en_AU sources away
from the upstream I maintain.
I want to make this explicit ahead of Jan 1, 2026:
* I am not stepping down.
* Upstream is active, and I plan to publish a release by the end of
February 2026.
* I do not approve of LibreOffice switching those variants to a fork
or alternate upstream (explicitly or implicitly).
I have already explained the situation in Bug 167649 (see comment 16):
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167649#c16
I ask that you please DO NOT MERGE any change that replaces or
re-roots LibreOffice's en_US/en_CA/en_AU sources away from the
upstream I maintain until the upstream release is published and
evaluated.
Thank you,
Kevin Atkinson
