Calc has the tool "Data Provider" in menu "Data". This tool is still in
a WIP state.
+ imported data can be placed anywhere on an existing sheet
+ transformations are applied before the data are inserted
+ easy refresh
- import parameters cannot be changed after first creation
- works only for HTML source in an acceptable quality
- XML does not work. For details see bug 169574.
- CSV has several bugs: 165659 and 169514, for example
- only available in ODF extended
- JSON not implemented
- SQL hidden for users, because it doesn't work at all
- CSV works only on local files
On the other hand there exists the tool "Insert Sheet from File" in menu
Sheet. That works well even with sources from internet and is usable
with ODF strict. But it always inserts a new sheet, it does not include
any transformations and the "refresh" in case of linked data is
difficult to find for the user.
How to proceed with the "Data Provider" tool?
