Hello, my first post to this list. I maintain a site (wpdos.org) with
tools and utilities for WordPerfect for DOS, and I've contributed a few
minor fixes to the libwpd project used by LibreOffice.
I asked Claude Code to create the code that can updated libwpd to fix
two issues:
1. Page numbering is not imported into ODT from WordPerfect 5.x files
(page-numbering IS imported from WPDOS 6.x files).
2. "Live" updateable cross-references were not imported from any WP
files into ODT. These are now imported from 5.x and 6.x files.
These changes are confirmed in builds on Windows and macOS.
Also, after many hours with Claude Code, I've now extended libwpd by
adding an odt2wp5/odt2wp6 component, which writes ODT files to
WordPerfect 5 and 6 formats. This is the only open-source WPD-writer in
existence, I believe, and it would make it possible for LibreOffice to
export in WPD format. It can now only import, not export that format.
I can easily supply working binaries from Windows and macOS if anyone
wants to try them out. I wrote a ticket on the libwpd SourceForge site
asking how to submit these for upstream, but didn't get an answer. If
these are of interest, please let me know what method to use for
submitting patches, diffs, etc.
