Hey Joel,

I took at look the Basic256 site--looks interesting. I never learned Basic
myself, but I agree that learning a practical low-level programming
language early on is a good way to introduce young people to the field and
spark an ongoing interest in cultivating a deeper understanding of the
fundamentals of computing.

One of the things I would like to see in the future is the general use of
free software in school districts and classrooms, rather than the current
system of corporate indoctrination with microsoft and apple products. I
always wonder how my own understanding of computers would have developed
had I been introduced to GNU/Linux at an early age...

I also agree that there is a deep connection between mathematics and art.
