communities. The dynamics of development within these groups suggests
that the active developers have accepted the state of affairs.

Do you mean you disagree the development of those distributions as
guided by those corporate groups? Even so, since those distributions are
made up of mostly free software, isn't the beauty of free software that
you can fork those distributions and do what *you* want with them? If
you disagree with how those corporate groups develop a piece of free
software, couldn't you take advantage of the freedom by changing the
software?
Or are you talking about some other ill effect?
