I'm not an audio expert nor a musician, but I wonder if MIDI editors
such as Rosegarden (<https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Rosegarden>) and
other composers such as Swami (<https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Swami>),
LMMS (<https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/LMMS>) and Qsynth
(<https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Qsynth>) are able to make use of such
files for composing music.
