People in general work by agreement. The story above seems to be
beyond the scope of the agreement, so if you worked for the family but
in your heart you imagined something else than them, and have not
communicated and have not reach agreement, then no wonder you will get
disappointments, because in your mind you contributed deeply, it
wasn't appreciated how you were thinking.

If you are not asked to contribute deeply and there was no agreement
to award you according to your expectations, just take responsibility
and move on. Next time do proper agreement, talk loud.

There we are again, many don't need any money in return, nothing to
complain. There is no need to generalize, every case is individual.
