I just did this exact upgrade this week, aand it worked like a charm.
Here is what i did:
1) Recvd disk (had data on it and would not work in libretto)
2) Installed disk and booted up with the toshiba companion disk, from floppy
drive
ran fdisk and partitioned to two 2gb drives. 1 primary dos and 1 extended dos
that you set as a logical drive (computer assigns "D'")
3) format drives from floppy disk
4) Put toshiba driver files on hard drive from companion disk as requested on
disk
4) You can now install w95 from floppy's or what I did,
5) install ghost and copy your 800 mg drive exactly-this worked for me so
great!!!!!
Good Luck, be patient, and try not to be frustrated. Ghost is available as a
free download evaluation for 30 days. you need it only for about 3 hours.
Ghost copies data onto the drive at 5 megs per minute, so mine toook about
1.5 hours to do the whole thing.

i recently bought a 4.3GB hard drive (MK4309MAT) for my libretto 50CT. the
libretto does NOT recognize the drive. the drive works fine in my compaq
contura aero 486/33. i can boot, access the entire drive, etc, with the
compaq.
the libretto runs fine on the 810MB drive. it has an apparently unrelated
problem i will describe in my next message -- occaisionally the libretto
locks up. i have to disconnect all power and cmos gets reset. i don't
believe this is related to the hard drive problem but don't know for sure.
can someone tell me. are there any known incompatibilities between the
libretto and the 4.3GB HD i've described? can i make this work by trying
config or hardware changes?
