I have two suggestions.
One is a 3Com PCMCIA ethernet card. Most of them run quite cool and consume little
power; the 3c589 cards run on as little as 27mW, if memory serves correct.
Another provider of low-power (and thus low-heat) ethernet cards is Socket
Communications. I belive their website is socketcom.com, but I don't have the time to
check.
