There is software written, I think, for every area of ham radio.
I use SSTV software to copy slow-scan on VHF (not in the L though)
APRS software for packet (www.aprs.org)
There is exam software to help you study for tests.
CW software for code practice.
Various antenna design packages.. it goes on and on.
