The "disk in my desktop" method is how I installed linux on my lib. I just didn't have time to post. :-( It can (but not usually) be dangerous to put the cable in backwards but there are some things you can do to minimise the risk. 1st. Look at the power cables on the adapter cable. One of them should be black, the GND line. This one will plug into a pin connected to a thick track on the disk drive printed circuit board. Also there is usually a dot or a mark on the connector indicating pin 1. This is usually marked on the drive to. They must be connected together (obviously, I hope). The other power cable should be red, the +5v line. This will also connect to a thck track on the disk drive printed circuit board, so a nearly failsafe method is to look for two thick tracks at one end of the connector on the disk drive and make sure the power is connected to them. If you have the pin ones as well you're home and dry. Why do I say nearly failsafe? I can not be held responsible for the wierdness of disk drive manufacturers... Once it's plugged in, do an Auto-Discovery with your BIOS to make sure everything is OK. If it even comes up with a drive type of letters and numbers (WD205G or whatever) you should be OK. Good luck.
