Subject: SNES and NES controller on Libretto

I haven't used nesticle in a long time, but you should be able to use
a regular NES controller in place of the SNES controller. (using different
pins / colors of wire on the controller side, but the DB-25 side would be
the exact same) I also believe that Nesticle supports using a SNES
comntroller, with some of the buttons being unusable, of course. But a SNES
controller would be more ergonomic than a NES one (you can change what
buttons are A and B, such as change B over to X or something), and you can
use the SNES controller under other emulators, such as Mame.

That's exactly why I built mine, I got horribly sick of the keyboard,
even when I customized the layout of the controller buttons to be more
comfortable. I just got sick of it after using a sidewinder on my desktop
system.
It's really easy to build, one trip to radio shack will let you
perform the surgery on an existing controller or turn an extension cable
into an adaptor to prevent cutting up the controller.
Here's the schematic I used to connect the controller to my parallel
port:

Here's the schematic that should work (I never built it) to connect a
NES controller to a parallel port:

It's best to use germanium diodes because they draw the least power,
this is especially useful for laptops. The above design works just fine on
my libretto 70ct, but if you use this on another model of libretto or
another model of laptop / computer and the controller won't work on it,
you're not getting enough power to the controller. The problem is that the
parallel port has no +5v power (which it really should have) so you have to
suck the power form lines that aren't needed for the controller. This was
the case with an i-opener I have, I just added a socket on the db-25 hood
that let me plug in a phantom power cable from a Xircom Pocket Ethernet III
adaptor I have so that I can get the +5v I need from the keyboard / ps2
mouse connector.
Tie the diodes together on their anodes, not their cathodes, like in
the schematic. They're there to prevent power from flowing back into the
other lines on the parallel port. And lines 18 thru 25 are simply there for
ground, you can get away with only using pin 18 or something if you're lazy
during construction. :)
You'll notice that the games let you configure a second, third,
fourth, etc., snes controller on the same lpt port. How is this? Switch the
red wire from pin 10 to other pins following the table below:

You can supposedly put multiple controllers on the same port, but I
have never done this and don't know if the libretto can handle that much
current draw on it's lpt port. It won't fry the parallal port, but the
controllers just won't work.
Disclaimer:
Remember, I have constructed the schematic above and it worked just
fine on several computers. If you make it and you see smoke coming out from
between the keys on your libretto's keyboard or hear a "poof" sound, or
suffer severe burns from the explosion of various electronics components,
bodily injury, cancer, plutonium poisoning, I cannot be held legally
responsible.
Warning, users of the above schematic can suffer from repetitive
strain injury, carpal tunnel syndrome, loss of vision from squinting at the
libretto's tiny screen, radiation poisoning, finger loss, hair loss,
impotence, loss of sexual appetite, reduced sperm count, testicle
degeneration, and hallucinations.
Do not operate heavy machinery, eat products containing marmalade,
expose yourself to bright lights or direct sunlight, watch a Madonna movie,
read a unix technical manual, perform heavy mathematical computations, wear
flannel or use latex based sex toys after using the above schematic.
Use with caution and only under the supervision of a trained
professional.
