Subject: HDD for Lib70?
Hey... I never knew this list existed !
My HDD in my Lib70 is reporting errors so I need to
know what sizes of disk (physical and capacity) that I
can fit to this machine? Am I limited to 8.5mm drives?
as thats all that seem to fit. What capacity will it
take? (I did flash back to the 6.20 BIOS!).
Does anyone know where in the UK I can buy the best
value disk that will fit this machine. My lovely
little box is currently sitting on its back with its
legs in the air... and I miss it!
Cheers,
Steve

Subject: Libretto 1100V
I have just acquired a Libretto 1100V. I was wondering if anyone else on
this list has the same machine. I
seem to be having trouble getting the camera and remote control to work
under my install of Windows 98.
Of course, I am also curious about running linux on it, probably RedHat 6.2.
I know the camera and remote
probably won't work unless I write my own drivers, but is the rest of it
standard enough?
Thanks!
Brian

THe drivers are funny and I was blessed with a preconfigured unit from JPD
so Ive never had any driver issues with any of the software. Im not a
windows person so I cant help much in that respect

I currently have a FreeBSD instance dual booted on mine and it took it
wonderfully even with the USB floppy and the dual boot floppies.
X is proving to be somewhat difficult due to its 800x480 resolution but
accelerated x from xig.com works fine on the other neomagic chiupsets on
librettos at that resolution. Im sure Ill end up getting it setup but Im
doing it the hardway.
As far as the scoppy video capture driver, according to toshiba this is
never going to happen due to supplier contraints. Some of their suppliers
are not willing to part with the information in order to write a driver at
this time. I suppose with enough time and effort it could be reverse
engineered, but I dont think Im going to be the one to do it.
THe i.shuttle is merely a HID USB device. This should not be as difficult
as there is decent documentation regarding software for them albiet in
japanese on toshibas web site somewhere I have the documents and the dsk
but for the life of me I cant remember right now and ive been mobile for
awhile (on the libretto no less) and havent had a good chance to sit and
look. But its out there and you can find it using various search engines.
The internal modem also does not seem to function but that may be an error
on my end or its a winmodem. Im leaning towards winmodem..
As I wont run linux, I cant test some other things correctly
such as pcmcia cards and the smartmedia adapter but the pcmcia controller
works fine for me under FreeBSD and while the smartmedia adapter is
found, I do not have anything working for it yet. TOo bad I happen to have
a dozen compactflash cards for my camera but no smartmedia cards. that
would motivate me a bit more into making it work.
Keyboard mapping should be possible but I havent done it yet. It makes
things a bit confusing from using the japanese layout as it is on the
keyboard in windows, and then the normal key layout under fbsd, but as
long as I dont look at the keyboard its not a big issue for me.
apm support seems to be working fine for me. the only thing it cant do is
guess runtime correctly while under battery.
the funny weird thing is the cpu gets detected as 133 mhz. of course its
not, but that was a little funky thing I notced.
and finally to repeat again. this is based on my experiences with FreeBSD
on the 1100v, and not with linux of any variant or type. I wouldnt know
for sure under linux, and wont test it under linux, but things should
carry towards that the same or possibly better due to multifunction pcmcia
card support that FreeBSD does not have properly yet (still not worth
running linux imho).
anyways thats about it.

Can you tell me what version of live media
you are running? Is it 1.0 or 1.5? Also what version of the Bios due you
have.
Thanks;

I am using Version 1.5 of LiveMedia, and I cant tell you the BIOS version
right away as I cant reset the libretto currently. Im using it as a router
right now so a machine with a more comfortable keyboard for long periods
of typing can get on the net, but I will pull the BIOS version off on next
restart. Or is there a way I can check without resetting the unit?
