It has be prooved since many years (mostly with Windows NT4) to have at least 2 operating systems (may be identical) on one computer. Together with a network card this allows to move entire partitions for backup purpose. If I do not make too big mistakes, I have always at least one running spare operation system. So I suggest: try to install a network card, save all important data and start again... If you can't connect to a network, plug the hard disk into another PC and save your data.
