TVVVM for all this info!!! :-)

Groovy - thanks for the confirmation.

Should I boot from the floppy to DOS to do this?

Many thanks - downloading it now

The (main) attraction with Win2K is that it seems like it might be the
easiest way to get around the BIOS/8GB issue. I don't have a desktop with
which to set everything up, and no previous experience with formatting,
partitioning, etc.

Problem is, I just can't carry it all! I'm currently backpacking round
south-east Asia full time and the idea is to get everything on/in the
Libretto itself. Sorry if this sounds unrealistic, but I already have too
much stuff ;-) I don't even have anywhere to store the backup - for it to
be an effective backup, I need to carry it at all times (because I'm on the
move, or because the original data in on the Libretto which is in my room
wherever I'm staying). Hence the biggest attractions of the PC-Card drive -
negligible size, no power supply to carry around, easy to keep separate from
the original data (it can live in my waterproof passport/document wallet
around my neck).

I understand what you mean, good point.
My concern is to back up my data, so that if I have another HDD failure, or
my Libretto gets stolen, or damaged (I saw a guy wearing a backpack fall in
the sea while attempting to get from ferry to beach just the other day...) I
don't loose all my pictures, e-mail data, notes, etc.

I am carrying the floppy drive (so I can get stuff onto floppies and hence
upload individual pictures etc via internet cafe machines) and I think I
have to accept that as being the limit of my 'disaster recovery' options.

I now have the problem full-time - screen generally flickering, flashing,
jumping around all over the place - but only on the Libretto screen - I'm
plugged into a CRT now and it's displaying perfectly, so I guess either the
Libretto screen is on the way out or it's a problem with a connection
somewhere?
