Subject: 50CT and MMX
Hi all,
I just subscribed to the list. I received a 50CT in trade for some junk.
My eventual goal is to install RedHat and make a car MP3 player out of it.
(Surprise.)
I was excited to learn that my system could be overclocked. I assume that
my unit has the underclocked P5-120, especially since the "Intel Inside"
sticker says "MMX" on it. I plan to clock it to 166, since I intend to
provide auxiliary cooling and not use any PCMCIA cards on a regular basis.
Obviously, it would help my MP3 processing to have MMX available, but Robert
Smid's CPU utility identifies it as not having MMX. My question is, is
there a way to get this thing to recognize the MMX extensions? Is there a
BIOS or hardware fix for this, or can RedHat or the MP3 software be
recompiled to force MMX to work?
Thanks.
