Subject: COM Port settings/PCMCIA Modem
This may be stupid series of questions....
My set-up: Lib100CT, Win95B,64MB - Psion Gold Global 56k modem(recently acquired)
Having acquired a 56k modem for first time (previous was a Psion V34 card) I have been
trying to set up my system to get best possible speed out of it... weird thing
firstly: when connected, if I hover the pointer over the connection icon in task bar
it always reads: <......bytes sent at 44000bps> yet a colleague's desktop p.c. that
also has a 56k modem shows <.....bytes sent at 52000bps> - he has Win98 on his system
- is this just a quirk of Windows?
Oddly, when I go to the bandwidth test page at MSN I never get any higher that 4.4k so
why do I appear to be limited? (My colleague's desktop system seems to show speeds
over 5.0 when the same bandwidth test is used).
Secondly... under the device manager/com ports - I cannot seem to see COM2 - it shows
COM1. My card shows under device manager/modems and seems to indicate COM2 within its
properties - should COM2 also show within the general COM section of the list? (I want
to be able to adjust settings in COM2)
