Subject: Libretto HDs >8GB section - Added to FAQ, Please Review!

Hi!

There has been much talk about whether Librettos correctly support HDs >8GB and
whether we need to worry about the location of the hibernation partition.

I can say for the L20-70 models, you'll most likely need to use a disk
manager/drive overlay program like EZ-Drive or IBM Disk Manager to see and
access the entire >8GB HD space. For the L110 and higher models, the BIOS
should correctly see the entire >8GB HD. For the L100 model, hopefully with the
latest BIOS revision, it should see the entire >8GB HD.

These statements generally reflect the few postings I've archived regarding the
>8GB HD issue.

As for the hibernation partition, for the L110 and newer models, don't worry.
For the L20-70 models, it appears that if you use the drive overlay programs,
the Libretto will put the hiberation at the end of the full HD space; without
such programs, it will put it at the end of 8.4GB.

This has not been extensively tested, so if you can test to see exactly where
the Libretto is putting the hibernation partition for your Libretto with >8.4GB
HD, let us know the details of how you know.

In general, these statements reflect the correct operation of BIOS's which do
and do not correctly support >8.4GB HDs.

Please visit my site below, click the FAQ link at the top, and read the section
regarding the >8.4GB HD issue. If there are any comments, corrections, and
actual real-world results, please let me and the other members know by posting
to this group.

Thanks and sorry for the long wait on this issue - it's a lot more complex than
I had initially though!

David =)
