Subject: y-adapter for ct50

Hi everyone,

Last year, I was grateful to the list for providing me useful information
on how to hookup my libretto to an external battery source. Every now and
then, I would connect it to a lantern battery (which would last at least 6
hours) or to a car battery (which would last the whole day).

The most difficult was building the y-adapter. Got into all kind of
problems sourcing the parts ('specially the crown plug). After so many
trials and improvements, finally was able to fabricate one that is decent
looking. For a picture, refer to:

If I can get at least 5 others who may be interested, I can build some for
the list members. I only ask for US$10, excluding packaging and shipping
for each cable for my time and material spent. No money to be made here,
hence I cannot guarantee anything. Also, I've tried it only for the CT50
(which I own one). Not sure which other models it would work on.
Interested parties may email me a copy directly since I sometimes do lag
behind in reading the list digests.

In case, anyone wants to know the details on how I made it. I had a mould
made for the casting. I used polymer resin plastic for the casting
material. The big plug is standard in any electronic store. The weird
sized crown plug was the pain in the ass! I had to buy the nearest size,
drill out the thing in the middle and solder a machined replacement that
did fit into the Libretto. Probaby soldering the parts together was the
easiest and fastest thing in the process. Casting the case is the part
that takes forever to do. It takes 1 whole day to cast 1 piece and the
sanding/polishing to make the case presentable. Hope interested people
would understand the cost.

Oh ... almost forgot ... one more catch. I live in the Philippines which
makes it costly to send out. I would need someone in the US who could
volunteer to send it out and hold (or collect) the payments for me. That
way, I can mail it all out to just one address (saves air freight) or if
everyone can wait, I can hand carry them on my way to the US sometime later
this year.

regards ... Oliver
