Subject: Tiny Personal Firewall

I can't manage to install the "Tiny Personal Firewall" (from
tinysoftware.com) on my Libretto 50 (Win95b). Given the knowledge base
spanned by this list, I thought I'd ask here for suggestions.

The installation runs without errors, and informs me that I'll have to
reboot Windows. When I do, it's unable to complete a normal boot, and
requires me to reboot in safe mode. If I do so and then uninstall TPF, I
can then boot normally. Having cycled through this process three times,
I'm pretty sure that it's TPF causing the problem. Unfortunately, I know
little about the details of the boot process, so I don't know to fix the
problem.

I could find nothing relevant on the web site. There're a few Usenet posts
from people who've had the same problem, but no one has offered a
solution. (It does not seem to be a common problem.) I've booted with
logging enabled - when TPF is "installed", the differences are
1) fwdrv.vxd is successfully loaded, "syscritinit"ed and "deviceinit"ed
2) the boot process stops just before "initcomplete=vmm" would happen
during a "normal" (i.e. without TPF "installed") boot.

If you have any suggestions on how to proceed, I'd be most grateful.
(I've seen TPF work on another machine, and it seems like a great product
- especially since it's free! I've tried ZoneAlarm, but I'd prefer TPF's
"IP address and port" scheme - it's closer to the Linux firewalling I'm
accustomed to.)

TIA

Mike Miller
