I have a panasonic CF M1V notebook (Japanese model). With win 98 se, it had been running just fine, and suddenly, on shudown, it always restarts... as if restart had been chosen from the shutdown menu. The only way to stop it is to power off. If I time that exactly right, no prob. Otherwise, of course scandisk runs. I usually abort it, but if I let it run, I will get an error message that it is unable to write to the boot sector. I am running Norton Anti Virus 2000, Zone Alert Firewall, and GoBack. I think any of these could possibly interfere with boot sector writes, expecially anti virus, but should have nothing to do with the reboot issue...besides, this configuration has been in place for months before this problem existed. Goback would not take me back far enough in time to not see this problem. Anyone have any ideas on what are probably 2 separate issues: The inability to shutdown The boot sector error message. TIA, and sorry for being off topic. Pls don't shoot!
